Hi all, We are a family of 5 (self, wife, 3 yr old 5 yr old, 10 yr old). My 10 yr old attends Dever Elementary in VS District 13 as he is a special needs child in special ed. We are looking to move East and I read online that the following towns are decent:

Lake Ronkonkoma, Commack, East Northport, Centereach. Are any of these decent with Special Needs?

Also is there a difference between Ronkonkoma and Lake Ronkonkoma?

Any other suggestions in neighborhoods? Budget is $350-$400k

I work in Plainview and wife is stay at home mom

Thank you

Just curious... were you moving out of the district anyway or because vs13 doesn't have enough accomodations all your child needs?

We are looking to move out of the district. VS13 has been great with services

Have a small cape now, just looking for more space and bigger lot.

Kings park has a great special needs department and is a decent school district for general Ed.
Your budget is tight for commack and taxes are high.
Also, East Northport might be a good fit for you.

Thanks guys. We searched for homes on redfin and saw that for our budget there is not much to select from in Commack, E Northport.

We did see something in Ronkonkoma that from the description and photos we liked so we will be looking at that house. I read through my search on the forums that Ronkonkoma is decent.

What about Kings Park? I think I'd rather live where you live now than in Ronkonkoma (which, I agree, is "decent"). I don't know that the schools would be any better than VS-13, or that you would necessarily get any more house for your money (though, yes, you'd probably get more land).

Kings Park is much better than decent, beautiful, and is pretty affordable. You still may not get much more house than you have now, but you will almost surely get more property and have some room to expand when you can afford it. And it really is a nice part of Long Island to live in (assuming you don't need quick access to the city).
