Have you actually seen some of the absolutely idiotic and completely serious questions that get posted here? This is nothing.

I would retire in Montauk or something if I was loaded, like mega. Right on the water. I could take my car service to the City when I wanted to, etc. Other than that, LI would be a tough sell for retirement having grown up there.

Is this real? Why on earth would you move here from Charleston?!?!?! Well, whatever your reasoning, expect to have very dirty, disgusting, crowded beaches in the summer, especially compared to Charleston's gorgeous ones. You can venture to the Hamptons if you have extra $$ and beaches are nice there, but not the same vibe as Charleston. Since you're moving, I guess that may be a plus for you.

In the winter, LI is nice only because it's a train ride away from NYC, which is the most amazing place to be around the holidays. Honestly LI itself doesn't have much to do besides shop and go out to eat...and leave for the city. Restaurants here are awesome but you do get tired of going out to eat all the time. We have some decent parks, I guess. And if you're into fishing Montauk is a nice place to visit.

It may not get as hot here, but the highways are probably more crowded than any roadway in the south. Prepare for congestion, anguish, and more congestion anytime between 3 and 7 pm.

In short, the only good thing about Long Island (if you don't have kids going to the schools) is its proximity to Manhattan. Literally, that's it. I actually want to do the reverse and move from LI to Charleston, but to each his own

OP has to be a troll. Moving from SC to LI would be like moving from Tahiti to Uganda.
Nope. We moved from LI to SC. And came back to LI. To each their own Mr Joe.

We moved here from NC last summer, and like it. But if you're looking for less congestion on the roads, this is probably the wrong place.
