I've owned a single family house in Laurelton for about 10 years. I feel that the neighborhood has been changing recently for the worse. Seems like people have moved in to the neighborhood who just don't care. I have two children and have them attend Catholic school in Bellerose, because I'm not happy with the schools in my district. I also joined a pool club in Glen Oaks, so that my children could have pool access at their disposal. l feel like I only live in my home and that's it. I don't utilize anything in my neighborhood.
I've been thinking about moving to Nassau, but I'm not sure town. I'm looking for
Diversity
Sense of community
Amenities (parks and pool)
Great school district
I know that there's North Shore and South Shore towns, but I don't know where to start. Any suggestions?
Thx!

Nobody can offer any suggestions without your budget.
Rockville or Lynbrook. Good schools , not too far out. Nice housing stock. Better investment in terms of building equity. I think Laurelton is changing because of the proliferation of two family homes that attracts transient renters. They are not as invested in the preservation of the neighborhood.
Many of the long time home owners are also not as motivated or up to the task healthwise of being as involved as they once were.
For this budget and some leg work you may get lucky finding a ' cosy' home in the five towns area. I wouldn't be too excited about this area due to the flooding issue and being in the flight path for JFK planes. Plus the schools are not the highest rated. If you look in this area be sure to go to the particular block at particular times of the day to assess the air traffic noise. Ask about flood insurance and basement flooding issue.
Thank you. I will definitely take a look at RVC and Lynbrook. I think that you've hit it on the head as far as the current state of Laurelton. I wish that I could just take my house and move it.
Do you have any thoughts on Merrick and how it may compare to RVC or Lynbrook?
