I agree, but Hills is generally has a "rich" tone to it... as in BEVERLY HILLS.

Good Observation.

Height is often associated with being of a higher class. Ever notice that castles and/or manors are always built on a higher elevation above a plain where the lower class labors. Thus, "hills" imply being above the rest. Here is a list of places that imply height as a feature of being of a higher class.

Manhasset Hills
North Hills
East Hills
Dix Hills
Forrest Hills
Hollis Hills
Half Hollow Hills

Also "Heights"
Roslyn Heights
Plandome Heights
Brooklyn Heights

Other places that imply elevation
Upper Brookville
Park Slope in Brooklyn
Sea Cliff

Some of the most exclusive resort areas are also very high up in elevation: Aspen, CO or Jackson Hole, WY or Kalispell, MT.

Interesting!! I hadn't thought of it that way. Also adding Cold Spring Hills to the list...and guess what? Coincidentally (or not so coincidentally) that's where Oheka castle is!!

But then there's Laurel Hollow, which is at the top of some hills.

Bedford Hills and Yorktown Heights in Westchester.

An unincorporated section of Ossining, mostly higher income, had wanted to change its name to Briar Hills a few years back. On the surface they said it was to be able to have better services (sanitation, police etc) but most thought it was to avoid association with Sing Sing and the fact that much of Ossining is lower income. It didn't pass.

I always thought that some towns with "Heights" in their name aren't that nice. There are some exceptions though, like Brooklyn Heights.

Every Long Island town that starts with North is a less desirable version of their more coastal, commutable and classier counterpart.

Zero exceptions.
