Right. You are really a moving target then. My neighbor who did the cross country trip last year is from Jersey so he is not exactly new to traffic and even he was absolutely dumfounded at the cut off and cut ins to get ahead by one car on the Belt.

I grew up in Nassau then moved to florida and have been in suffolk the past 4 months and cannot believe how aggressive and angry the drivers are. Not just on the LIE but everywhere. People are always looking to pass you when its one lane each way and go into oncoming traffic to do so. The sitting on the horn for no reason and driving right up your back is just absurd. Why are people so aggressive and angry?? the cost of living? weather? claustrophobic trapped on an island? i thought florida was bad and it is but its plain dangerous here its like a mental illness

Mostly worse in the tri-state area from what I've seen. It's one thing to be aggressive, but it's a whole other to be a discourteous a-hole.

They were not cab drivers? A lot of taxi/cab drivers out there....they usually annoy the rest and badly influence a few from the bunch.

Especially at this time of year when it suddenly gets darker much earlier - but it drives me crazy, it's definitely worse now than it was years ago.

During night, driving is at a different level. You need to be very careful as there is very less visibility at night.

According to AAA New York 30% of drivers are drunk and/or high at all times of day or night. That's 3 out of every 10 drivers. Scary thought but true.

When you factor in the baby boomers aging, this means plenty of drivers who should be off the road by the time they're 80 will still be driving, albeit incompetently. Even more scary.

In the past few weeks I've witnessed near misses by other drivers, and almost came close to being bashed in a head-on collision with a nut driving on the wrong side of the road. Scariest.

Any thoughts?
Do you have a source for this statistic? This sounds unrealistically high.

totally agree with you. not a day goes by that i don't see an absolute lunatic on the road while i'm driving. people do not have the patience to sit and wait for even 15 seconds, i'm always wondering where people are in such a rush to to risk everyone's lives on the road. people also don't seem to understand the concept of leaving space in between cars as a "cushion". a lot of times if i'm stopped at a red light and i see the person in my review mirror coming at me, i legit think they are going to hit me, they pull up RIGHT behind me. i'm always tempted to get out of my car and see exactly how close they are to me because it looks as though it's 1 inch away.

It'll get better with self driving cars. I can't wait.

Case in point - a thread here about LI drivers who think going through a red light is ok. I mean, its their right. The LI constitutional right not to be impeded in any form from getting to the pizza joint or stop n shop as soon as physically possible, safety regardless.
