For gas, yearly maintenance is not required. When I had Oil, the yearly boiler maintenance was part of the service contract. I would guess $125 - $175 if you didn't have a service contract.
Your water leak issue could be a result of a bad expansion tank. But there a number of things that could be causing the water leak, but the expansion tank replacement is the cheapest fix.
Gas cost us $87/mo. averaged out for the whole year. Compared to oil at over $4/gal at our previous house, it became a considerable difference. Apparently it still is if you're paying $300+/mo.
If you're staying in your home a long time, I'd consider converting for sure. No maintenance and no random cold nights waiting for them to show up to fix a clog. More satisfyingly, no haggling every year for a new contract.
I have found Slomin's to be the cheapest, but lousy service contract. If you have a fairly new and reliable boiler then go with Slomin's. Otherwise go with Petro or Meenan. They have excellent service contracts and their Oil price are pretty competitive also.

And it is always always always the coldest day of the year, the day after a blizzard, or when you need to go somewhere! It NEVER FAILED. Had oil 2 years, switched to gas, spent the next 11 headache free.

Interesting. Ive never had that problem. My line is pretty new though.
I have 2k sq ft and my boiler is about 35yrs old. Even with my competently inefficient boiler My winter gas bills rarely top $200 and are usually around $160-175. My gas covers hot water and stove also. If I had a new modern boiler I bet my winter bills would drop $50 a month during the heating season.
If folks would invest in their insulation they would be surprised how much they would save.
