the Governor today announced that the vision addresses three key areas:
Transform JFK into a unified, interconnected, world-class airport
Improve road access to the airport
Expand rail mass transit to meet projected passenger growth
It seems we'll be paying higher taxes for the beautification of JFK, with a pretty park in the center.
Does anyone see benefits for the tax-payers and people on the ground who don't use the airport??

you can find people that don't use the trains, subways, or even the roads....should taxes not be spent on them as well?

Then why subway stations look like they do?
They spend the money where it's most needed.
I'm on board with spending $ on jfk, but to make more room for air traffic with new runways that take traffic away from long island, not in making it pretty for the tourists.
As much as I hate taxes, I hate coming back from almost any Euro city or even American city and be disgusted the minute you hit NY. Cracked, filthy, polluted, inefficient, dirty, stank, broken. As soon as you merge onto the Belt at Conduit Ave and look around you say "wtf is wrong with this place?" Our inflated sense of superiority is shattered the minute any tourist shakes hands with a rat in the subway. Money spent on infrastructure is the best kind of stimulus. It makes jobs, it increases tourism, it attracts business and it creates civic pride.
Forget "if you build it they will come." Who cares about that?! It's "if you don't build it, someone else will."

I couldn't agree more.
But did you notice that none of the investment is for the actual function of the airport? Which is receive and send airplanes loaded with people and cargo, without affecting the rest of the population?
Except for more room for airplanes at the gates, I couldn't find anything regarding the actual air traffic, nor the pollution over long island.
It's more about the user experience than anything else.
This governor is such a pos. He needs to be removed immediately. Waste of money that could otherwise be used for overhauling the east river crossings or to public transit (I'm looking at you NICE bus).
Only a portion of this is tax dollars, much of the funding comes from elsewhere.
The Port Authority itself raises all its revenue internally and doesn't receive any tax dollars. Most of the money being spent on the LGA redevelopment is coming from private companies, who are getting operating rights in exchange once the new terminals are up and running.
If secondary infrastructure needs to be improved, such as the highways leading into the airport, then yes tax dollars may be spent on that since that's the DOT"s job and not the Port Authority's. Also the FAA will chip in money in the form of AIP grants which are federal dollars, so there will be some tax money spent, but much of it will come from other sources.
In the short term, RWY 4R/22L is being rehabbed this year, with improved high speed turnoffs, which should increase the airport capacity, although not by a ton.

Very knowledgeable.

Will this mean even more traffic will be possible over LI?

Is it known which companies are those?
Do you know if the tax dollars are paying for infrastructure purely to benefit those private investments (for profit investments)?

Please God no. That was a terrible 12 months with rattling windows and walls and not being able to hear each other talk sitting out in the yard. Thankfully it has stopped for us.
And of course people care about it especially if it was suddenly forced upon them after decades of no noise. Don't be slow.
