New to Long island. Was wondering if there are like minded people who love road trips, exploration, drives.
Not sure if this is the right place for such a question, but thought I'd give it a try.
I've been all over North East. Know lots of good roads.
Over the years it became a bit difficult to venture out due to busy schedules with kids and all.
Looking forward to hearing from anyone who loves the road.
Thank. Did not expect anyone to remember er these cars.
Well I love driving, exploring. Its just very difficult with a 4 year old.
As for getting out of the island. Im usually up by 5:30 most days, so hitting the road at 6am is within norm for me.
Short cruise is usually around Bear Mountain. If I have the whole day I usually venture out to Catskills, taking local routes once past Westchester.
Vermont is always a treat as well, rt 7, or 100. But getting there takes time, so thats usually a weekend trip.
I can go on and on. If anyone needs a scenic drive or a point of interest, just ask.
As for my Mark VII. Its a life long love affair since I was 16. Had one in High School, second one in college, this one is my third one, have it for 10 years almost. Have taken it to Lake George, Canada Niagara Falls, and countless other drives.
We have started doing road trips with kids recently, the first one was pretty hard, but then they got used to it and said they prefer this type of vacation to just lazily spending time on a beach type of vacation. We have done short trips to Catskills to hike at the Lake Minnewaska, visit CIA, mansions, and wineries and we have also done long trips to Colonial Williamsburg, DC, and Canada. The little one loves it, until recently, he called hotels "the new house". We still have to do local trips, have not gone practically anywhere on the island. If you think it's hard with 4 year old, it's much harder with two teenagers whose weekends are busy with HW, sports, activities and friends.
You've got the east end right here on LI. North and south forks, starts at Riverhead.
Plenty of exploring out there and things to see and do.
Gods country. And wine country.
take the Hutchinson Parkway to I-684 North (watch your speed) , which becomes NY 22 once it crosses I-84. Stay on NY 22 north. it hugs the border with Connecticut, then with Massachusetts and finally with Vermont. You can follow it to the south end of Lake Champlain.
It's a great ride any time of the year, especially in the fall. Lots of places to stop for ice cream too -it's dairy country.
Another one I like - US 6 from Scranton PA west to Wellsboro PA. Follows a branch of the Susquehanna River for a long while. Lots of hills, fun to drive.
