New York sucks, an over priced liberal hell hole, stay in NC, dig in, build a life, don't live in the past. I'm prior service military and don't tell it like you would like to hear, I tell it like you need to hear, visiting is fine, I go back and visit as well, but I do miss life in Virginia and after a few days in NY I look forward to coming home here in VA.

Thing is after living in NC after awhile you realize employers(even the big corporations) take advantage of the lower wages. For example, an administrative assistant making 25K, would probably make an average of 42K in NY. A person's value significantly drops here. A lot of small businesses here struggle to provide or won't provide benefits to employees.
Totally my experience. I did a preliminary job hunt in NC a couple years ago to test out the market while deciding to move or not. I was probably the most disgruntled long islander out there and I needed to see the grass on the other side.

Man is it different! Certainly felt like a who you know type of thing down there. Also, Yes there are more people here in NY to compete against but there are so many more jobs. Real jobs were scarce. Lot of companies have offices down there but it's usually lower level back office type of teams. I knew one could expect a paycut down there but the difference in pay greatly outweighed the cost of living benefits.

I would have left 2x my COL savings on the table. Very glad to still be in NY.
