Cut them and you'll regret it. Just wait until you see all that empty space with a view to other neighbors or a concrete wall or road, and no shade in summer. Not to mention the impact on the neighborhood.

Just updating the thread in case others may be interested down the road. It took about 5 days for the tree removal permit to be approved, most of it attributed to the inspector's availability. Once he gave the OK, I was able to pick up the permit the next day.
