Looks like they reached a deal and are going to approve free state tuition this year. UNLESS you make 125k a year, then you are SOL....

God knows how they are actually going to pay for this

It looks like if you start this fall at Stony Brook (for example) , are a NYS resident, and have parents with a combined gross income of under 100K (that is 'on the books', of course), the state picks up the 8.8K annual tuition tab.

Fine points concerning any federal aid, alternate aid source offsets, etc. still seem TBD.

Wonder what effect this will have, if any, on SUNY selection rates, etc. And, for example, places like Hofstra, Adelphi, etc.

I could be wrong but I think the 8.8k is per semester, not annual. Right?

Let's give out free homes and free retirement accounts, cars and clothes too. Why not have a free shopping spree at Target every day? The tax payers will pay for it, it's only fair that they should provide everything to everyone else. And they wonder why working people and retirees flee the state. And they have to have special programs and tax breaks to keep businesses from fleeing. I'd like to ask Cuomo the communist what about a break for those who ARE working??? There IS no free lunch.

It's 8.8k per year, but the fees and stuff put it over 10k.

Like how you mentioned off the books as I'm sure people will scam this left and right.
