The all encompassing, overly intrusive, egregiously expensive, offensive, and incredibly stupid NYS government interfered with my wife's ability to get a sleeping pill. The doctor prescribed a small dose of a sleeping drug (in a capsule) for my wife, however the dose was far too strong for her. She called the doctor and guess what; the doctor cannot prescribe a lower dose because the states electronic prescription system "cocked blocked" a new prescription on the basis it was a controlled substance. Here is the nanny state "taking care of us."
My doctors too are very frustrated with NYS because it is telling them what to prescribe and how to practice.
NYS HAS ELIMINATED THINKING, DESTROYED PRIVACY, and interfered with my personal business.
There is no future in Real Estate here.. because you are consenting to this nonsense.
Go to the store and buy empty capsules. open the one you have and pour half into the empty capsules. I used to do it for my parent all the time. There is a lot you can blame on the govt. but this is not one of them. Sorry your DW is having this problem it is annoying but it is being done to save lives for those on drugs and that trumps annoyances all the time in my book.
Dude, she can cut the pill in half and give it to you. Both of you clearly need to be taking something.
Waiting on HotKarl's snark. Karl, Karl?
Can't cut a capsule in half.
Your wife's doctor is at fault for starting her at such a high dose. Wouldn't it have made more sense to start at the lowest dose, and if that didn't work, just double up?? Can't she get the proper dose starting next month?
Those laws exist in most if not every state by the way. We're having a little problem with prescription drugs in this country. It's the same reason you need to show i.d. when you buy freaking Sudafed. As usual, the good people are the ones who are inconvenienced.

The consensus here is that most everyone is consenting to NYS on this issue.
The problem we are having in this county is that people don't want to (or are not capable or educated enough) to govern themselves thus we have a nanny state; they are consenting to all sorts of abuse and rationalize the justification away.
Someone having a prescription drug problem is not my business. It is certainly not the states business.
The State interceding on my behalf, against my wishes, without my consent, at the expense of my freedom, and against my privacy, against my best interests, and generally to my detriment is my business. For me the conclusion is that the cost of living in NYS is too high both money and in freedom.
I have nothing to say other than this has NOTHING to do with Long Island and isn't a productive thread for the board. I'd rather see another "best pizza on LI" than is.

Actually it is the state's business. The state foots the bill for welfare, medicaid, child support, foster care and all those fun things associated with substance abuse. You in turn pay the state to cover the expenses associated with these addicts.
Perhaps by limiting the previously free access to all sorts of narcotics we can stem the tide of opiod addictions and maybe save some tax money in the process.
Do yourself and your wife a favor: move out of state. Then hopefully she can sleep without the need for a potentially addicting sleep aid and you can have all the freedom and privacy you desire. You really seem miserable living here. It can't be worth it for your health and sanity to continue living here if you get this worked up over every perceived slight.

Lived in Canada; it was a place with much more freedom.
The taxes were high but you got something for your money....
Far too cold.
I am red state bound...
