I'm sure there are more.
These are good suggestions. Northport may be good as it has all levels of wealth - from low income to extreme wealth, and, doesn't have a pretentiousness about it.

If you have ever spent any time in TN, then all of the above will feel like a foreign country. The OP will have some major adjustments. He will also feel claustrophobic. Unless you live in a highrise, people in TN have much larger tracts of land and there is more space between homes. If his kids need special education services, they will get much, much more on Long Island.

The guy has money. There are plenty of large plots of land in the areas mentioned above. If he's moving from a 100 acre farm, maybe. But if he gets himself an acre (very doable in suffolk), he'll be ok.

Rich people in TN have more than one acre even in subdivisions. There are minimums there. And the ones that want to be within the Nashville or Memphis metros but outside of the city do not have to be rich to own several acres. A home by one of the lakes in middle TN might be less than an acre, but then you have a boat and a dock and it might be a second home. Land in eastern TN is very cheap. He will hate Long Island. He won't be used to living near roads or noise unless he comes from one of the small TN urban neighborhoods. And after 9 o'clock it gets very quiet because everything closes.
Thanks for all the input guys. Sharing all of this info with my friend. He is a great father and husband. My gut tells me that he wont like LI either, but he knows it is important to his wife to be close to her family so he'll make it work. They will keep the house in TN, and they also have a home in Jackson Hole. He likes boating alot too, as their home in TN is on a lake, so I think living by the water in the not as crowded North Shore will be a good bet. I told him to do all his boating on the weekdays lol, the waters are crowded and nuts on the weekend. He likes Asharoken. Thanks again for all the advice and your time, it is appreciated! You guys and gals are the best!
Percy Priest Lake gets crowded too on the weekends. But if he likes boating, he may enjoy that part of Long Island as there are so many more choices than TN and our water is salty. He may also like the idea of going to the beach in the summer, something that TN lacks. Good luck to your friend.
Northport definitely comes to mind. I've seen people have really nice properties/homes for cheap there too. Decent high school. Quite rural compared to Nassau (Suffolk is more open, spaced out).
