Hello everyone. We will be moving to rvc in July. Where do you send your teenage kids to camps (sleep away and/or local)? I would like my kids go make friends before going back to school in September. Thanks in advance.

Hofstra University has a wonderful (but expensive) summer camp for Teens. There are 4 sessions to choose from (or a combined 7 weeks) with sports, educational and specialty camps. Transportation is also offered. Just google Hofstra Summer Camp and you will find all the information you need!

There are dozens, maybe a hundred, summer programs in ys, schools, religious institutions, town rec. programs, private day camps and travel camp programs all over Long Island with and without transportation. State your price and your kid's interests. Sleep away camp is usually upstate, PA, MA. At summer day camps, the teens are usually CITs for the summer.

You may want to find something in the RVC community/school district where you are moving. Perhaps contact your Village Hall to see if they have a recreational summer program for the children in your community. Give your School District a call to see what summer camps they may be having over the summer. I think this will give your children an opportunity to directly connect with the children they will be going to school with in September. This will also give them an opportunity to become familiar with their own community. Another suggestion would be to contact your library to find out what summer library programs they have ..... this will
place your children directly in contact with children in your own community. Good luck!

Good advice, especially with elementary school aged children. The OP mentioned he had teenagers. Maybe they are in middle school? Long Island teenagers usually work as a CIT at a camp or go to sleep away. It's a little harder to meet your future classmates over the summer if you are of middle/high school age.

Yes, I agree it is more difficult with teenage children. Perhaps the high school/middle school are running some sports camps.
