Has anyone removed tile/vinyl/carpet in a Levitt home and stained the concrete slab with success? We did this in a previous home in Las Vegas and it came out beautiful (and it had cracks), but the house was only 13 years old. Not sure if the slab looks as nice in a 70 year old home. Thanks.

I have a Levitt cape and I would be very surprised if you tore up your existing floor coverings and found nice clean level concrete to stain. Our slab has settled considerably and there is about a six inch wide ledge around the entire perimeter of the house with some cracking especially on the northeast corner. Six inches measured to the inside from the walls that I would estimate slopes at least a half to one inch in height. We've never measured the entire slope from the walls to the middle of a room but it could be more or less than one inch in our case.

I suppose you could clean it up and fill in any cracks and then stain it, just know that it will probably not be especially level. Since we have baseboards all around the perimeter we tore up the old rugs and had our flooring installer fill in the cracks as well as he could and then install laminate flooring in all but the kitchen and bath. We have ceramic tile in the bath and sheet vinyl in the kitchen. No issues there. The laminate was installed over 10 years ago and still looks OK but wherever there are high spots in the floor there is some separation in some of the laminate seams. If you really like the stained look my suggestion would be to look into sheet vinyl. They are making some really nice stuff now and that would be the best option for covering up all the irregularities you are no doubt going to find in the slab. Good luck.

Self leveling top coat, then stain it.
94.7% that slab will be horrid when you remove the floor coverings.
