I'm looking for an auto repair shop in the Floral Park or NHP area near the Queens/Nassau border that can repair or replace a Chevy turbocharger. I'd rather not take it to the dealer and be told I need another $1,000 of unnecessary repairs. Any suggestions?
I couldn't find anything online about a warranty extension for the turbo so I called the dealer who checked and said there wasn't. I then called Chevrolet and asked if they could make special consideration since the turbo is only a year and a half out of warranty with less than 30,000 miles on it. I was told no.
Cruze? Thats the only thing I can think of (besides a Duramax) that has one. I'd find another dealer/service writer to see if they do you a solid and replace it for free/cheap since you're just out of warranty.
Replace is pretty easy. It's a DIY. Upgrade or add is more challenging.
Just remember to disconnect the battery, drain the oil (Oil change time!), disconnect fuel pump relay, coolant....basically unplug, replace, plug everything back in. Take pics so you remember.

I went to two local repair shops and they said they don't know anything about turbos and wouldn't know how to replace it. Another place will do it but they want to do extra work like replace the water pump which I don't think I need. (I had another mechanic look at the water pump and he told me it was fine.) I wouldn't feel comfortable trying to replace the turbo (and intercooler) myself.
Stop going to those two shops for everything. They should have access to Alldata or similar which outline every single step to do the remove/replace. It isn't a diesel, its a gas powered 1.4L motor with a baby turbo on it. The DIY is easy, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who has only done brakes and oil changes.
GM repair time is 2.1 hours to remove and replace but that might be a little quick. I'd say 4 for a mechanic who's never seen this car before.
