Wondering if anyone knows what the law is on parking a commercial vehicle in a residential driveway. It is summer once again and the summer camp buses are popping up in several driveways in my neighborhood. I'm guessing the property owners are working for these summer camps, picking up, and returning children at the end of the day. When their day is finished, they park the buses in their driveways. The buses are there all weekend, without moving. I live in a very pretty neighborhood, especially in the summer, with everything in bloom and a tree lined streets. So you can imagine what an eyesore these shiny yellow buses are. I sit on my porch and these buses look so darn ugly. I am paying almost $15,000 in taxes, and I can't imagine that these buses are legally allowed to be parked in a residential area-- but, I could be wrong. Does anyone know what the law is on this matter? I live in Nasau County.
As others have said, you need to check with your town. I do sympathize with you. I have commercially registered work trucks but a large enough yard with plenty of evergreen screening to hide them from all my neighbors' view. Consideration goes a long way.
That written, have you considered that these neighbors might need the extra income to pay their taxes? They could be creating illegal apartments creating parking havoc on your street, evading their fair share of property taxes, adding to the school population. Or, they could just be inconsiderate oafs who don't give a crap about your street, what things look like, and are willing to cause problems for you and your like-minded neighbors.
You can choose to learn if this is illegal and set the town on them if it is, grin and bear it for the summer, or say something to the neighbors which might start bigger problems.
I have a recollection that last year right here on CD, there was a thread about a plane parked on a driveway someplace on the south shore. I have to assume that there is little that can be done about a commercial vehicle if a plane can pass.
Wow that was a long time ago that post appeared and they just removed it. I am now going to have to search for it. The neighbors put up with that for ages.
Thanks for all the replies. I felt it was my business, because I am the one sitting on my porch looking at these ugly school buses. I spoke to other neighbors this morning and found out that the owner of the summer camp lives in the neighborhood and has some of their buses parked in other neighbors driveway. Funny, the owner of the camp does not have any in their driveway. I don' t know all the details, like are they paying the neighbors to keep their buses. I will call TOH and not mind my business some more.

Just because they need the income doesn't mean they have to bring a bus home. My sister brought hers home because it saved her 10 minutes in the morning by not having to drive to the school to get it. It's totally optional to bring the bus home and it is inconsiderate to leave it out where the neighbors can see it

The point was that they might need the extra income. That was in no means condoning their parking an ugly bus in the driveway of some housing lot.
