Hello

Back in 2016 I sign a lease from feb(16) to march(17).
In march 2017 I never got my new lease when month to month paying my original lease amount.
I gave my 30 notice this week and my landlord is now ask for back rent march thru July.
They state my old lease holdover tentant more money for month to month they never bill for this.
Can Landlord collective this

Thank

I would feel like a freeloading loser living somewhere and not paying, but of course im not looking to scam every penny possible at every turn.

When you signed the original lease (Feb 2016- March 2017) stating you would pay $X amount more month to month at the lease's end? If so, you own the landlord money.

If I am reading this correctly, you have paid rent for March through July at the original lease rate. The landlord is looking to collect the difference between the original lease amount and the month-to-month amount.

Basically, you knew the rate up to March of this year. You did nothing to seek a new lease and went month to month and now decide to give notice. The rate on month to month is generally higher because you can give notice and move out and the landlord is left with an empty home. You should have contacted him sooner. Pay up and learn a lesson.
