I'm in contract for a property and noticed the tree is lifting the sidewalk and the power lines go through the tree. The seller is going to fix the sidewalk but I'm not sure if I want the tree. It's about 25 feet high
The tree is located between the sidewalk and street which I assume is the town's property.
Can I request the town to remove the tree or at least cut some branches off so I don't lose power or does PSEG do that? The tree may not look good if we cut the branches off because the wires go right through the center of the tree.
PSEG will trim the tree at your request. Contact them on their website. The town or village should maintain the sidewalk. If you like the seller, notify them of this, and they can call and ask for repair. It may take time, though. If the tree is bad enough, the town may want to take it down. They will then have to notify PSEG to come and top it off for removal. It gets a little involved at that point, because everyone's schedules and resources are different.
When we lived there LILco would send Asplundh out and they were more than willing to cut tree below powerlines. It also may lessen the cost of tree removal.
People need to stop killing the poor innocent trees.
Tree murderer!
