We would love to be involved with their baby and it would give more family opportunities for our special needs child . We are very afraid of dicey noisey neighborhood on LI after living in rural PA . Florida doctors and NY doctors were much better and I also loved the walkable stores on LI. I am a bit afraid to drive and Florida has tons of long bridgeds still I cant afford a very expensive area and dont want to be in horrible neighborhood thats why alot of NYers came to PA but they wait most times 9 months for a specialists we just have more medical needs Can yo offer any help Please dont knock us it is very hard we are moving slowley because we dont want to make a big mistake thanks
We retired out of state but lived for many years in Lake Ronkonkoma. I think you ought to look into that neighborhood as it's very nice and peaceful but still happening with lots of shopping, restaurants and even a movie theater along Portion Road. It's all walkable! You're ten minutes from the LIRR and 10 minutes from MacArthur Airport. There are lots of well-kept mid century capes and ranches in the area. You can check www.mlsli.com and keep an eye and see what's out there. Of course you can search other areas in Suffolk, too. Centereach isn't bad and is a little cheaper. Of course you can solicit the help of a local agent who can probably discuss good areas by email and phone. Best of luck to you and your family!

Try investigating Leisure Knoll out in Ridge, NY (Suffolk County). Some of the detached condos are in the low $200's - I'm assuming you have a budget that is on the low side. I don't know how far out east in Suffolk you would be comfortable living as Ridge is pretty far out there; there ought to be a few hospitals around as well as MD offices. But it is Suffolk County with low price tags and probably low taxes (comparatively) as well.

Just my 2 cents.

I would also check out Yaphank and Rocky Point. I saw on www.mlsli.com that there are some very affordable (by LI standards) homes, condos and even co-ops there, and those areas are quite nice. SUNY Stony Brook's hospital system is still fairly local and is really good.
