The 2 houses that our long house hunt finally came down to are located in Franklin Square and Hicksville.
Just looking at the house, not area, the Hicksville house is our favorite (large property, big house with enough space for family planning). The Franklin Square house has less space (and 1 less bedroom) and the usual, tiny 40x100 lot. Taxes are about the same, and both are in very good condition/renovated.
We heard that Franklin Square is the better area? The sellers of the house in Franklin Square will only settle for an offer higher than the sellers of the Hicksville house. Is Franklin Square that much better? Does that warrant a higher price for a smaller house/property?
(btw... please don't suggest to look at more/other houses we're just tired of looking at any more houses... including today's new listings, there are no other houses on the market in Nassau that meet our criteria and that we like... we've looked at over 6,000 on mlsli.com and over 40 in person in the past few months )
FS by a mile.....you get what you pay for. I have done many inspections for both and FS is the way to go.....good luck....let me know if you need an inspector!
Franklin Square is pretty nice. Homes are older and lots tend to be pretty small, but it is close to NYC if you are commuting. The elementary schools are fine. Franklin Square would be a good choice.

For those who may not be familiar with Franklin Square:
Franklin Square is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the northwest section of the Town of Hempstead, in the west part of Nassau County
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Franklin Square in the Town of Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Village of Stewart Manor, the Village of Garden City and the Hamlet of South Garden City; on the east by the Hamlet of South Garden City and the Hamlet of West Hempstead; on the south by the Village of Malverne and the Hamlet of North Valley Stream; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Elmont.
The Hamlet of Franklin Square has a different border than does the "Franklin Square, NY 11010" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Franklin Square, NY 11010" mailing address and not be in Franklin Square and a place can be in the Hamlet of Franklin Square and have other than a "Franklin Square, NY 11010" mailing address): places with a "Franklin Square, NY 11010" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Franklin Square are in the Village of Stewart; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Franklin Square that have a "Garden City, NY 11530" and "Elmont, NY 11003" mailing address.

The Hamlet of Hicksville has a different border than does the "Hicksville, NY 11801" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Hicksville, NY 11801" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Hicksville and a place can be in the Hamlet of Hicksville and have other than a "Hicksville, NY 11801" mailing address): places with a "Hicksville, NY 11801" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Hicksville are in the Hamlet of Jericho; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Hicksville that have a "Bethpage, NY 11714", "Jericho, NY 11753" and "Westbury, NY 11590" mailing address.

Thanks for any input and opinions
I'd go with FS, too. I think it's a better town, better schools, too. Have family there and they like it.
