My house, built in 1958, has little installation.
AFAIK, none at all except a bit between attic and bedrooms below it.
It has the original windows, with aluminum storm windows added in the 60's.
It's definitely leaky, but not enough for me to do upgrades.
So what if I'm wasting my children's inheritance haha.

In my mind the money is of least import, your comfort should be. With those credentials the house had to be cold in the winter and warm in the summer, unless you live in a very even temperature area year round.
I had to have them come back twice, to insulate where they claimed they did. I had them do my walk in attic. They never put ANY insulation where there was plywood on the floor as promised. 3rd time I insisted a manager come out. The owner came out and was apologetic, and fixed it, but the workers were obviously ticked off. People need to check if they are getting what they pay for.

That is a problem with a big company like them, consistency. Good to know your experience.
I'm running a semi-efficient home.
3000 sq ft. 5 person. 1000 therms annually.
Gas provides Heat, Hot water, range, dryer.
Not living in a cold dark home. 22 year old boiler. Air is not stale at all.
The $10,000 will never pay back. And wait till your heat and A/C are needed.
Your first quote was correct about cellulose. Greatest insulation property of the bunch.
Be careful about adding cellulose into fiberglass walls. Very likely to have gaps.
Thoroughly air seal the attic and basement before walls.
I haven't finished my air sealing yet.
DIYing it . About $500 in materials so far. Expect another $300 to finish. Tax Deductible too.
Learn all you can for the best results from a contractor.
Dr Energy Saver videos on You Tube are a good basics teacher.
Flir thermal camera imaging are the best for finding problem areas.
Blower door testing should have been done for you. Before the quote.
No accurate way to compare year to year. Weather is never the same.
But my usage is down over 150 therms annual since I started.
I did it for the return on investment.
Spend $800 once and save $200 a year. 25% return, Compounding for as long as I live here.
My labor is free of course.
