I will be commuting from Huntington Station to Penn around 6:15am. I have to park in the metered spaces since I don't have a parking permit. How crowded will the metered street parking be at that hour? I know parking at Huntington Station is very fierce but I am hoping I will beat the rush hour crowd for the most part. Also how packed will the trains be at that hour?
Any advice will help
I've been taking the 8:22 for the last couple months and there always seems to be a few metered spaces left. I used to take a train that was about a half hour later, and occasionally it was already full by then. But, I think they added some more metered, non-resident parking on the west side of 110 as well (between the trestle and Railroad Street). At 6:15 you *should* be OK...
I think it's like $20 now for 12 hours though (in the metered lot - metered street parking may be slightly cheaper). So if you are needing to do it regularly and are a resident, you'd probably be best off just getting a permit for $75. I think non-resident is $150.
If you catch a train that originates in Huntington, it will be pretty full but you should find a seat. It will be packed by the time it leaves Syosset. If it's a double-decker from Port Jeff though, good luck...
The 6:15 will give you no problem with a seat. It is by no means empty, but there are plenty of seats.
