For those who may not be familiar with Northwest Harbor:

Northwest Harbor is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the northwest part of the Town of East Hampton, in the southeast part of Suffolk County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Northwest Harbor is bordered on the north by Gardiner's Bay; on the east by the Hamlet of Springs; on the south by the Hamlet of East Hampton North; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Wainscott and the Village of Sag Harbor.

Northwest Harbor is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of Northwest Harbor have a "Sag Harbor, NY 11963" and "East Hampton, NY 11937" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): //www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

East Hampton is a village (incorporated in 1920) in the southwest part of the Town of East Hampton, in the southeast part of Suffolk County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of East Hampton in the Town of East Hampton is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Wainscott and the Hamlet of East Hampton North; on the east by the Hamlet of Amagansett; on the south by the Atlantic Ocean; and on the west by Georgica Pond and the Hamlet of Wainscott.

The Village of East Hampton has a different border than does the "East Hampton, NY 11937" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have an "East Hampton, NY 11937" mailing address and not be in the Village of East Hampton): places that have an "East Hampton, NY 11937" mailing address that are not in the Village of East Hampton are in the Hamlet of East Hampton North, the Hamlet of Northwest Harbor, the Hamlet of Amagansett and the Hamlet of Springs.

Yeah it's Northwest Harbor. But it is often referred by hikers as Northwest woods. It is a nice pine barrens area with some nice ponds, such as Chatfield's Hole.
