It's a real estate grab, not a hockey deal. Sure the Islanders will play there and probably continue to suck like they have for 25 years but the real purpose is the 250 room hotel that is going up along with other commercial development. It's not mainly about getting the Islanders a new facility. The real estate people used it to justify their commercial development deal which is probably very favorable to them. The Islanders have been terrible since they were sold in the early 90s and have had multiple owners who were convicted of crimes and have had the worst possible management with people like Mike Milbury and Garth Snow.
Bruce "The Rat" Ratner currently owns it ... he's the guy that had Barclays built.
Anyway, my question is ...is any taxpayer money going towards the building of this project ? How much money is Cuomo stealing from us now ?
apparently the county owns it and the folks from Barclays operate it. If this new building gets built for the Islanders...the coliseum may not have much of a future.
