I heard that James Dolan, owner of MSG and the Rangers, will own the Belmont Park sports facility. That's great having the owner of your hated rival own your building. There may be other investors like the Wilpons but that's not a positive.

Hey listen , the islanders are televised locally on a channel, owned by the owner of their biggest rival. What does that tell you ? Lol
Islanders Schmislamders.
This country is such a mess and people still care about some lousy sports team.
Maybe if people put this much passion into the school votes and elections things might actually improve.
Nah.

Actually the Rangers pretty much control everty choke point that controls the opinion of the Islanders. Rangers/ MSG will own the following now:
Belmont Park Arena - Islanders will pay Oak View (MSG/Rangers Arena operator) Isles are tenants
MSG Cable TV- Yep the Islanders play on the Ranger channel
Newsday - The Ranger owner owns the newspaper that basically controls every opinion about the team, you think Newsday was going to allow Islander fans to enjoy Barclays (Barclays is MSGs hated rival)
Rangers pretty much control the whole thing. they even have supporting pieces like News12 and good connections in places like CBS TV or Forbes. So every opinion published about the Islanders is an opinion that supports the MSG / Ranger / Dolan agenda.
With the new tax plan in place, attendance will be abysmal. How can we go to a hockey game with all our earnings paying taxes. Only attendees will be cops and teachers.

This was all about real estate. The politicians don't care about the Islanders who could have and should have been playing in a renovated Nassau Coliseum but it was renovated in a way that made it too small for an NHL team. The residents voted down the Lighthouse Project so the owners and politicians didn't want the Islanders to play in the Coliseum. Instead they have now essentially moved the Lighthouse Project to Belmont.
While supposedly it's being built with private funding they are using land from a state park. Newsday says "the group will sign a 49-year lease with the state and pay a total of $40 million in rent". That's not a lot of money spread over half a century for public real estate that includes an 18,000 seat arena and 435,000 square feet of space of retail stores, restaurants and a movie theater; a hotel with 200 to 250 rooms and nearly 6 acres of outdoor recreation space, including 10,000 square feet of community space. For comparison, $40 million is a little more than what LeBron James earns in a year. The Belmont Park developers will pay that over 49 years to gain all that property.
Again, it's a real estate land grab under the pretense that it's all about the Islanders who will continue to be as inept as they have been for 25 years.
If the new facility turns out to be as great as it sounds, I honestly don't see Nassau Coliseum lasting. Between MSG, Belmont and Barclays, Nassau Coliseum is flat out crappy.

The Rangers, and the Knicks will probably share this new arena with the Islanders
