Love the Nimby thinking already spewing out.
Cuckoo 1: Somehow ADDING additional road capacity will somehow INCREASE traffic.
Cuckoo 2: Dubai, Tampa and Boston can build ambitious infrastructure projects that attract boatloads of infrastructure money and create a decade of good jobs but of course LI can't because some millionaire will have to give up his vacant land for 2x what it's worth when he won't take less than 4x what it's worth and since he donated $5k to his elected rep, he sticks his head in the sand or opposes it as "not feasable."

Long Island can't sustain the loss of Wall St, aerospace, tons of defense, mortgage, semiconductor and most other industries and replace them with Starbucks and Red Mangos and think that will support our schools or infrastructure needs. We can't attract industry with weak rail service, way overcapacity airports (while an excellent option sits underutilized in Ronkonkoma) and roads that can't sustain even the slightest increase in trucking. Excellent waterways with ZERO ports?! WTF?!

At some point, we need to think and act like up an coming municipalitiy and GROW!! We are simply sending money and resources (including our kids) to Florida, NC and now BUFFALO!! Wake up, white people! This isn't 1950 and we're not getting jobs at Grumman. In fact, we're paying to clean up their radium so we can take showers.

This! The tunnel should be a priority for everyone on the LI and CT sides. It would completely change the dynamics of both areas for the better.

You've cited some pretty good advantages LI possesses to keep it's GDP growing nicely, which unfortunately is not happening today. The problem with all of these resources and assets is the cost of labor. The heavily unionized workforce makes almost every project unfeasible. And along with high labor costs come govt fees, surcharges and taxes. Why is McCarthur Airport a ghost town most weekdays (except for 3 or so Southwest Floriday express flights per day)? It's an expensive airport for airline use. On top of that, the private business mass exodus off of LI makes running business class flights very unprofitable.

Florida, NC and many, many other states are just more pro-business and most are right to work (if you're a worker bee that's bad news, if you're the ceo that's great) so labor costs are much lower as are the costs to live in those places.
