I don't adhere to deadlines. I grieve about my taxes every day.

Default Update

For those of you living in Nassau County:

The deadline to file a property tax grievance in Nassau County has been extended to April 2nd in order to allow residents more time to appeal their property tax assessment.

The following is a quote (not necessarily a statement of fact ):

Newsday has reported that 61 percent of the county’s residential and commercial property owners have appealed their assessments since 2010. Those that filed a grievance had an average increase in their property tax bills of about five percent or $466, compared with an average jump of 35.7 percent, or $2,748, for those who did NOT appeal.

In Suffolk, if you are granted an assessment reduction, it would go into effect next year (2020).

If you miss the deadline, it'll go into effect one year later (2021).
