Stay put.
Have your kids visit for the holidays and they'll get to know their cousins.

We did the opposite, we had my parents move to where we live. After all we had kids in school, have good jobs and friends. And not to be morbid, but their friends were dropping like flies.

Break the cycle. Stay out of NY. Start and keep family there and your kids will thank you for it someday.

the OP hasn't answered so I think we have kicked another dead horse on yet another thread where the initial poster never comes back with an answer.

And when you try to modernize it to make it more efficient, they jack up your taxes. God forbid you want a new house - you're taxes will triple! Its a shame that this area will just keep aging due to the ridiculously high taxes associated with a new house. Houses have become so much more efficient over the years yet we will continue to live in 50-100 year old houses indefinitely to avoid 40-50k a year in taxes on a 3k sqft house.

At least this post has degraded in vortex's, abusive public sector unions and the neighbors lack of concern...
