Wasn't the LIE & SS paved a cpl yrs ago?
For my 40 mile duration seems all the tarred seams
are pealing and breaking apart like crazy. New potholes
added everyday. My run is x19 SS -> Saggie -> x61 LIE
and for the past year the road is just breaking up.
Could also be from the crap they are spraying and salt
they're sprinkling before the 'snow storms'.
Oh well....

I said this same thing the other day.
The roads are absolutely wrecked out here. Not sure if it’s from the cold, warm then cold again weather or not. But they are terrible!!

Its lack of maintenance.
The roads are abused to no end due to the weather and traffic volume.
Which is expected. But, with regular maintenance and upkeep they should hold up much better.
Nothing is done until absolutely necessary and even then, its done half assed wuth an attitude.

Maintenance? Do you mean the whole stretch
of the LIE a work zone? Also w/ more double your
ticket for speeding compared to the amount of workers
out there?

Last year wasn't too bad but this year it seems
like to roads are turning upwards. The one time
I went on Nichols exit from lie they tarred a freakish
pattern freshly all over and when it was wet alot of people
were sliding. I recall I had new tires at the time also.

Cripes, even the HOV has a few going on.

Nice weather is coming, glad I dont ride a motorcycle
to change lanes. The white lines hide the 3"+ trenches.

Winter is just finishing up. The roads being like this with all the water/ice/expansion is no surprise. They need time to patch them up. Doing so during winter is pointless.

If you want brand new everything, it's just going to be like this again maybe < 10 years down the road, and for a ridiculous cost.

If you travelled the Belt Parkway in the past you realize the validity of this statement. It continues, by the time the last part is new the first is in need of replacement.

The frigid snap we had in January has helped contribute to the frost heaves.

I do agree, however, that the roads seem worse this year between heaves and potholes than they have in the past. 25A eastboung from the Stony Brook Museums until just before the train station is a disaster. It's like offroading.
