No sir we will not! We will beat every dead horse we can find, drag their bodies to the Sound and build a bridge across it upon their rotting carcasses!
Good day, sir!

Port Jeff has been screwy lately. Web site goes down, takes forever to reach them on the phone. They had 2 ferries out of service late April. One was regular maintenance, the other was an accident damaging a rudder or something of that ilk.

People are against the tunnel because they don't like the ventilation shafts. Unbelievable. The tunnel will go way under their communities, and I'm sure they'll find a good place for these shafts.
Locals will properly get a huge property value boost due to the proximity to the mainland. Probably around the tunnel you'll see restaurants, hotel and gas station opportunities.
But... those ventilation shafts!!!

The tunnel would be going under properties which are already very pricey once you move beyond Syosset. I doubt these homeowners want any ventilation buildings towering near their homes. No matter how one tries to sell the hidden tunnel that's convenient to the mainland, those ventilation buildings will stand out. Yes, it is NIMBY, no argument there.

I am guessing these ventilation shafts might serve two purposes, bring fresh air into the traffic tunnel for the motorists, and vent out all the carbon monoxide. So would residents near them experience a depletion of fresh air and increase in the latter?

Given how often and how Long Islanders have been getting the shaft I’d have thought a few more wouldn’t even be noticed.

I drove 3 days in a row to Bridgeport, CT this weekend for a kids' thing and this tunnel cannot come soon enough. Will have to do it quite a few more times the rest of the year. 72mi. sometimes taking 2hrs in traffic instead of what would be 24mi. Huge difference.

Can anyone provide a link where CD posters in Connecticut, Westchester or any upstate location are bemoaning the challenge of getting to LI and wish the connection would be built?
