If anybody is interested here is an email I just received from the mayor of upper brookville. Some interesting links at the end:
Dear Residents,
Recently there was a meeting hosted by Bayville’s Mayor Rupp on Governor Cuomo’s proposed plan to build an 18-mile - of which 9 miles will be underground - 60’ tunnel from Syosset to Rye. In 2016 Governor Cuomo commissioned a 5 million dollar feasibility study which was released in December 2017. Governor Cuomo now wants to move forward and make this happen.
I was unable to attend the meeting but Mayor Schmidlapp (Centre Island) was there and sent the note below to his residents. I thought you’d appreciate his comments. In particular, the presentation (click on link below) is a superb and thorough analysis of the situation! The next update meeting is scheduled for May 9, 2018 at 7PM at the Locust Valley High School auditorium and all may attend.
Best regards,
Elliot Conway
Mayor, Upper Brookville
From Mayor Schmidlapp:
The information presented to the standing room only crowd was alarming. The impact to our Village in addition to the surrounding communities would be staggering. The tunnel would go under Centre Island and would knock out pipes leading to our wells. The ventilation towers being proposed for either Centre Island, Bayville or Oyster Bay would ruin the area. A picture of the Holland Tunnel ventilation tower is below. Imagine two of those either on Centre Island, Bayville or Oyster Bay. I know your first reaction will probably be this will never happen but if we don’t do something about it, it could become a reality.
Although the creation of the National Fish and Wildlife Refuge that surrounds Centre Island thwarted the last attempt to build a bridge, there is no guarantee that it could prevent a tunnel.
Please take a moment to look at the presentation by following the link below. It will give you the details of what is proposed, what has been done so far, and what you can do:
I love that in that document, the claim that a tunnel is unnecessary because flying cars are a proven concept and will become a reality. So people oppose an underground solution but favor noisy flying traffic OVER their homes? As if flying cars are remotely a 'reality' in anyone's lifetime...
That whole document is so blatantly a NIMBY opposition that its downright laughable.

Could you imagine flying your car with the same nuts that already drive on the roads today?
Forget Rye, Oyster Bay residents will squash this one again.
Regardless of whether any of us agree/disagree with the idea of another bridge/tunnel, those of us who have been on LI a long time know the drill with this. It will be proposed by some politician and shot down. And when another politician comes in, same thing is repeated.
Again, by the logic of that document, we should just destroy our current bridges, seal up the tunnels, and just wait for autonomous flying cars to become available. The current infrastructure is a complete waste, does nothing but create traffic, cause pollution, kill wildlife, destroy livelihoods, bring on apocalypses, etc.
The glory moment of his past Al Bundy's life: scoring four touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High School Panthers in the 1966 city championship game versus Andrew Johnson High School, including the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds against his old nemesis, "Spare Tire" Dixon.
However, even HE won't be able to get this tunnel built. But maybe he can sell Oyster Bay residents some women's shoes.

Or insult them and get them to move making room for the new bridge/tunnel.
