The Franklin preschool does not follow Montessori. It's a nice program, but classes are bigger than what you would find in a private preschool.
The 2 elementary schools follow the same language arts curriculum and math curriculum used by many NYC public schools and some of the other Long Island districts.
They've always had a good music program, although not quite as good as it used to be.
Definitely plenty of those upper-middle class kids go to SUNY schools and other good schools, like University of Michigan and University of Maryland, but top 20 colleges have quotas. They can't take the entire senior class from Jericho High school (or any elite high school), only one or two students will get an acceptance. Therefore, if you have an exceptional kid, sometimes it is better to go to a lower ranked school. Beware though, Valley Stream, Sewanaka, etc. all have a small group of elite students who dominate each senior class too. If you have very young children, don't worry about which districts will get your child into Harvard. It's pointless.
Thanks all for the input .... I was more concerned with if the education is truly superior delivered with exceptional teachers... if the curricula is nothing special then that answers my questions. I will look into Manhassett and Jericho SD.

But seriously, its not realistic to lump the average kid from the projects of Brownsville/East New York with the average minority kid from a middle class and above household that can afford to pay $12k+ in taxes and a $400k+ mortgage.
And if you wanna truly escape diversity then you're better off moving to West Virginia lol

Realize that if your kid(s) are not top-twenty caliber students they may be better off, possibly get accepted to "better" schools, in a less competitive SD. Jericho is insanely competitive. As someone above pointed out the top schools are not going to accept every capable student from a single school. If Jericho has 5 students with 4.0 GPA and 1600 SAT with equivalent ECs etc... only 1 or 2 might get accepted.
Questions are hard to answer. Hewlett has a 98% graduation rate compared to their neighbor Lynbrooks 97% however lynbrook is US News & World silver medalist and a nationally ranked school where hewlett is no longer ranked.
Long island has a ton of Gold medal schools which here are a few... Cold spring harbor, garden city, great neck north and south, herricks, jericho, manhasset, Plainview JFK, Roslyn, Sysosset, Wheatley and suffolk has a bunch more as well. Point is Hewlett is a terrific school as are most long island schools but personally for what the average family pays for taxes in Hewlett plus the fact your looking in a few years things can change so ask again when you're ready.
