The reservation there is not a true reservation, its only recognized by NYS:
The reservation and its people are recognized as Native American by the state of New York but it has not received federal recognition from the US Bureau of Indian Affairs. This means that it does not control sovereign territory and may not conduct Indian gaming on its land.
Exactly.
It is, essentially, a housing project. With (loose, and often misunderstood) government exemptions.
I can. In layman's terms, and trying to be as PC as possible, the Poospatuck Reservation is primarily purebred ghetto African American.
As I said earlier, it is akin to the projects. The difference being that as a Native American Reservation, it has certain protections and is exempted from certain regulations. Basically, they can do whatever they want in there. And it brings a negative element to the entire community that will never change because it isn't going anywhere.
If G'dale really was there last week, then he is most likely a skell, or a drug addict, or he went for cheap cigarettes.
All kidding aside, this thread is really ridiculous. No one is going to gentrify Mastic. The government used to house pedophiles and rapists there after incarceration just to keep them centrally located.
It's a dump.
Thanks for the clarification.
I wasn't aiming for PC, or even not PC.
Just facts. No crime against inter-breeding in and of itself.
The status I feel is bogus though. No politician will touch it though because it would be political career suicide.
I have no idea what percentage of your ancestry needs to be native American to qualify but I'd venture to guess a majority of the residents are less native American than me. And I'm Irish.
