The New York Police Department has sent a letter to Google demanding that it remove drunk-driving checkpoints from its Waze navigation app. In the letter, the NYPD writes that “the posting of such information for public consumption is irresponsible since it only serves to aid impaired and intoxicated drivers to evade checkpoints and encourage reckless driving.”
I didn’t even realize you could put DWI checkpoints on Waze, I just thought it was police. What are the odds that this increases use of the app for that purpose?
Waze is killing it. Gotta love it. Cops mad that people are sharing speed trap and DWI stops? Too bad, 1st amendment. Fort Lee, NJ mad that Waze is sending everyone through the streets to beat the GW Bridge toll backups. Excellent tech shaking things up. Currently negotiating with the auto mfgs to sell cars with Waze installed. Good luck, law enforcement.
Oh and lets face it the cops and electeds could give a frig about safety, it's all about revenue.
Yep, anytime you hear them say the buzz word "safety", its all about the money.
