To play devils advocate, you pay taxes on almost everything one way or another.
Like how you pay taxes on your income earned from your paycheck (federal, state and sometimes local taxes). When combined, it could easily take up over 30% of your gross income. Its inescapable (unless your Donald Trump or Amazon).
