After multiple issues with Altice and their God awful defective equipment, i am done for good. So, i would keep internet and go woth Netflix and firestick. I want no equipment from Optimum. I see an option to use my own cable modem. I will buy one but i need one that has phone jack since my wife wants to keep it. Is anyone using a third party modem and if so, which one. No wifi needed. Just a good modem with one RJ45, one RJ15 and coax in. Thanks.

What speed do you have?

Why would you keep Optimum for phone? You can get Ooma or another option for cheaper and not be dependent on Altice.

Wife insists on our current phone number. I believe the phone is free with the internet.

On my ipad, download 85 upload 12. Sounds pretty crappy. I got a netgear nighthawk router

Do yourself a favor and get a TP-LInk TC7650. Best Optimum modem out there if you don't need voice (who needs a landline these days?) After I cancelled Fios after 8 years, I got a used one on Amazon and it's been perfect.

85/15 isn’t horrible.

I’d pick one of the Arris modems from the list I posted, one that’s compatible with 200Mbit service (in case you upgrade speed at some point.) But they don’t have phone jacks - that will limit you greatly. I don’t know if you can even use a third party modem when they give you “free” phone service.

You should be able to port your current number to another service. Ooma costs $80 on Amazon, and about $3.50 a month in taxes and fees for unlimited US calling. There’s probably a porting charge but don’t know what that would be.

Or, if you don’t use a landline much (like hours and hours a month) you can get a cheaper device and then use a VoIP provider like Callcentric where you pay as you go for like $0.02 a minute.

I have the Arris TM1602 with telephone port. Works fine. Purchased about 2 years ago, I believe directly from Arrris.

The modem I currently have is an Arris TM822 supplied by Optimum. Until last month they had me on some kind of free promo thing for 200 mBs but I recently got an email saying that promo is now expired; however, it is still showing as 200 on my most recent bill. Just did a speed test on the Optimum site and it came back as 229 download, 37 upload so I guess it's still on.

I have no need or desire for the phone aspect so just have internet and the Economy tv package which is the least expensive at $65. Internet is $60 (after applying the $5 discount for also having tv on the same bill) plus the $10 modem fee = $70.

Wouldn't mind saving the $120/yr by having my own modem but until I see where my speed ends up after they eventually remove the 200 promo, there's no sense. Might be 100, might be 50, who knows. (No need/desire for wireless.)

I just made the switch a month ago and it was the best decision ever. I pay for the 300mps speed(optimum) and these are the exact things I purchased for a 1700 sqft house. Everything works great, but keep in mind this modem doesn't have voice, so you would need the model that has that feature.

I got my modem for Optimum from buyyourownmodem.com. Not joking. I've had it for about a year with no issues. It was $50.00 and free shipping. The modem is the TM1602a,

Thanks for the replies. I am gonna get the TM1602a because i need phone line, if only for our alarm system. Now i gotta figure out how to stream. Youtube TV wont work on my firstick or my 2015 samsung smart tv. Hulu live might be the only choice but doesnt have Nick, which will bother my little girl because that means no Sponge Bob.

I also have to cancel my current Altice One package. I have now and order Optimimum internet and phone only. Not sure if they need to come here to install if i have my own modem and router. Anyone go through this transition?
