We’re potentially moving to Long Island and some towns that were recommended to us to look into are Port Washington, Roslyn, and Westbury. Curious to get some feedback on how these are similar or different. Thanks!

You don't give any information about your situation/needs/wants, etc.

Your budget will have an impact on location.

If you commute into the City, Port Washington is best. Westbury has more than one school district; they have different ratings.

Give us some thing to go on. As Elke said, Budget, demographics, religious affiliation -( if you care about being a minority in a community), ages of kids, what you are looking for home wise. Each those areas has what I would consider a less than desirable section.

What part of Roslyn is less than desirable?

I realize the question in my initial post was not very specific. I guess I was trying to get some general info about the towns...

A little bit more about our situation: we are a family of three, our daughter (5th grade) is currently going to a private school (in Massachusetts), undecided if we would go public or private in Long Island. Housing budget around $1.5M. We are originally from Europe, having lived in the US for nearly 10 years now. Fairly liberal political views, enjoying some cultural diversity, but more importantly value "open-mindedness" and curiosity. I'd be working in NYC, so a relatively short commute (<45 minutes to Penn Station) is important.

Hope this helps some, and any other suggestions besides the towns I mentioned would be appreciated too!

That leaves you out of all but Port Washington of your selections and that is questionable. There is little on LI that will get you to your office in under an hour unless you work in Penn Station. I would suggest Manhasset and Rockville Centre commute wise, but the first will be slim pickings in that price range, RVC will offer more for that budget, however, neither of them fit your other parameters.

You have a 1.5m budget you have many options. 45 min or less to penn puts you no further east than Syosset station if you are willing to add a few min cold spring harbor. I am ignoring the south shore towns. In that price range you won’t have an issue getting a house.

Westbury would be perfect for you. Also forget the private school Westbury school district will provide exactly what your looking for.
