I've had my Solar for about a year now and I absolutely love them. I produce about 12Kwh a year and have plenty to spare. I charge my car as well. I estimate my payoff to be around 6 years.
I did not go the conventional route and finance through the solar company -- what you will find out is that the cash price chops off quite a bit from the total -- In my case approx 5k. Then I secured financing from other sources.
Overall, total cost was 30k... If I did financing through the solar company, it was around 35k
We were interested in solar (for both potential $ savings & helping the environment) and had 2 meetings. However, based on their analysis, it would take about 10 years for us to break-even. We decided to pass for now. Will look into the solar option a few years down the road.
