We have a cape that is 1150 square feet and got a quote for ductless air. I have to say I was shocked at the price, but am not really sure what to expect. I was quoted 2 units outside and 4 units inside for a cost of 15,250. Does this sound right or too high? I know many people who had central AC installed for less, and I thought ductless was supposed to be more cost efficient to put in.
I am getting 2 more quotes, but was just curious what anyone else may have experienced. TIA
Thanks, that's what I thought. What size area does your unit cool?
Maybe 900SQ FT? Cools the entire living room, kitchen and dining room. My house is a small ranch.
At night, because we are on one floor, we leave the bedroom doors open and are very comfortable with the ceiling fans in the bedroom and the AC going in the living room
OK, thanks for the replies. I suggested to my husband that we just do the main floor anyway because the upstairs is just 2 guestrooms and hardly ever used. We just need the main floor which is 2 BRs, LR, DR and kitchen.

Would you be getting the big mounted-on-wall units, or the in-ceiling ones? The in-ceiling units (they look like normal CAC registers, only a bit smaller) are much better looking but the installation cost is hiigher.
My pricing probably isn't relevant anymore but FWIW in 2002 we had a single on-wall Mr. Slim unit/one ouside installed, to cool a 600 sq ft extension that didn't have any direct connection to the main attic. The cost for that single unit was $5000 as part of the entire job they did which included two Carrier air handlers/compressors (one for upstairs, the other for downstairs) each with their own duct run, plus an AprilAire filter unit on the upstairs system. Unfortunately I no longer have the original paperwork for that house (was sold in 2014) although I do have my Excel file listing what we paid for everything we did. The total for the one Mr. Slim/two Carrier systems/AprilAire was $28,525. Five thousand of which was for the ductless Mr. Slim unit.
Again... that was in late 2002, so that's 17 years ago. If you double those old prices you're already at $10K and you will be getting 4 wall units, not two. So actually it doesn't sound that out of line to me.
The price was quoted for the big wall mounted units. I will compare to the other 2 quotes we get and also look into Central air.
My original thought was that the house is smaller than my others in the past, so I thought the ductless may be the way to go. I will have to see all of my options and then choose.
Get someone to quote you from queens. The price difference for me between a certified Fujitsu installer from a local guy and a certified guy from queens was almost double. Maybe about 3 years now. I paid 4400 for outside 24k btu compressor with two indoor units with heat pump.
