It sounds like the challenge is being in a school district that will make the referral to one of these self contained schools. It is ultimately they’re decision, correct?
With her diagnosis I would look at Carman Ave BOCES, United Cerebral Palsy, and Henry Viscardi as the special schools in Nassau. I am not as familiar with the special schools in Suffolk. Due to her severity, I would think most if not all districts would place her in a special school.

Now, where are you looking to live in terms of proximity to employment? Do you have jobs lined up?

BTW the Joseph Sam's school down by you looks pretty comparable to the special schools here. I question whether the schools here would be significantly better for your child.

I don't know if this school will fit the needs of your daughter or not but it is an excellent school for those with disabilities. I was a disabled sports official before retiring and knew this place inside out. Uplifting and wonderful learning environment.

My husband is customs officer and would be working at JFK. I am a licensed customs broker. We did consider Joseph Sams, it is south of Atlanta and would require a move. It’s the only special needs school in GA that fits her needs, all the others are autism centers.

Do you guys really want to come back to NY? Housing costs and taxes are really high here compared to GA. I guess the next thing would be finding out your budget for housing and how far of a commute you want. Staying on the south shore of Nassau County would make for an easier commute to JFK.
