Our home was built in The Town of Islip over a hundred years ago. The last home improvement was made in 2005 which included an addition to the house. Will we need a CO to sell the house?
Yes....happened to my parents. But my father a//k/a THE HOARDER had the plans for the house that had been left by the original owner. Took them to town hall and got the CO.
I would talk to the town about what you'd need to get the CO.
You could probably get a Certificate of Existing Use (same as a c/o but used for homes built before the building code went into effect. But, that would only be for the original structure. For the addition, you would need a c/o.
A family member was in what now would be over a hundred year old home and there was not CO's back then. They did a legal addition though and they had the CO for that as Tom Moser indicated. They had no problem with the sale.
