Hi all
Long time reader, first post. Based on the thread with ticket while driving, I have a question. Thanks to the poster that included the info on the TVA.

I was pulled over for the first time in my life (30 years of driving) for a headlight being out. I was given a ticket and because my insurance card had expired (forgot to put the new one in my wallet) received a second ticket. the officer was nice and assured me as long as I got it fix and a letter from my insurance company, it would be dismissed.

Got the light fixed the next day, called the insurance company, went to precinct and they verified the light. We noticed that the year on the tickets said 2009 and the car was a 1998 plate number was correct. The officer fixed on the form of the headlight issue. All the backup documents (registration/insurance letter) show 1998 and the same plate number(on ticket)

Couple of weeks later got back all the insurance documents and a letter (headlight ticket was dismissed)
They wanted to know why the years didn't match. I realized in my haste and nervousness I had given the PO the wrong registration (but info -plate, was for the car that was stopped)

I am going to bring all the info to TVA, what can I expect? Do I need a lawyer, Helpful person on the phone at TVA said I may need to go to trial because PO may need to explain the discrepancy.

Any advise, words of wisdom, etc. are greatly appreciated.

courts have ruled that typographical errors on tickets are irrelevant

Thanks!
That's why I was confused they sent it back. The plate on the ticket matched all the backup. I'm not looking for an "out", just want it resolved, the car is insured so that's not an issue. I'm afraid this will be "too complicated " to resolve in one visit.

Just responding to my own post. I went to the TVA to resolve the ticket and it was dismissed.

It really was a painless process. Yes I didn't have pay, but if I was there for a ticket to plead down, from what I could see, it was very straightforward. Everyone on staff was pleasant, professional, and patient (The handful of people on line who were complaining about everything, would make me lose my mind. ) It really was not as bad as I expected. Some tips:

- Find the post in the texting while driving topic. It describes the process exactly.

- Bring quarters for the meters, lots of surprised people

- Get there early, I was part of the first group in, and it moves quickly. I was there at 8:30 and out by 9:30 (it would have been the same amount of time if it wasn't dismissed)

- Have your documents (I saw people with crumbled up tickets or nothing ) and you really don't need a lawyer from what I could see.
