For me it was later since he was in Colorado and 11 eastern did me no good because often he was still at work. We did burn up the wires at 12 or 1 though.

A digital cable box, high-definition (HD) digital cable box or CableCARD is needed to receive TV service. A QAM tuner may access certain channels in Broadcast Basic except in Brooklyn and Bronx. A high-definition (HD) digital cable box or CableCARD is needed to receive HD programming. All HD channels require a HD television. Not all channels available in all areas.

According to the above, it does look like you still need a box to get Broadcast Basic though, unless your smart tv has a QAM tuner which may get some(if that's what "certain channels" means.) Although if you disconnect the COAX (coming from the splitter) from your existing cable box and connect it directly to the TV, that would test whether you will get all the OTA channels listed above without a box (because it would eliminate all the "cable/non-OTA" ones.) Probably the "News 12" and "Optimum Channel" and the stuff in the heading in the above list is only there on the assumption that the customer will still have a cable box.
This is what I got. It’s now $62 a month!

Thats just ridiculous. Most people from mid Suffolk and west can get most of those stations with a good ota antenna. Just pay about $100 for a good, one, then it's free

I am buying an antenna this weekend. I refuse to pay $62 a month for basic cable.

Something's wrong. I took a screen shot of the old prices/new prices graphics from the Optimum web site in January, and Broadcast Basic showed $24.99 old / "No Change" new.

I don't have a means to post images here but will transcribe:

Broadcast Basic $24.99 old; No Change
Economy (which is what I have) $49.95 old; $69.99 now
Core $59.99 old; $79.99 now
Value $64.95 old; $84.99 now
Preferred/Select $74.95 old; $94.99 now
Silver $89.95 old; $119.99 now
Premier $109.95 old; $129.99

The above are the "rack rates", i.e. what you will pay for the service tier (not including any boxes or fees or taxes) if you don't have any kind of bundle or promo going.

Monthly went up $15 (eastern suffolk). But that was achieved through an unspecified "Special Discount." TV and Internet rack rate actually went up $50. The internet price jump is nutty.

What speed do you get for $89.99?

If you didn’t care about News 12 or MSG (or whatever you get) you could go with a streaming provider like Hulu and ditch the boxes.

I’m no longer on LI but pay around $180 a month for Hulu + Live TV + 200 hour DVR + unlimited streams + HBO + ESPN + Disney+ and gigabit up/down speed.

It's an amazing business model isn't it. Have people pay you money to beam commercials into your house.
