Hi All,

I will be moving from South Africa to the US towords the end of the year. I will be working in Manhattan and would like to know where is the best to stay - Long Island or New Jersey?
I have a wife and 3 boys - good schools are a must - I don't have an issue to commute. I am looking to rent a house - budget of around $2k - 3 or 4 bedroom house.

I can't tell you specifically but NY city (not in the price range),Long Island might be tough on price too and if you do find your price it might be in a les than desirable area.My suggestion is check upstate NY just out of the city. NJ might suit you well in price but have never heard great things about the schools also Newark which is huge and not far from NYC is the car theft capital of the world. Check REALTOR.com - Real Estate Listings & Homes For Sale. I think they have rentals on there. Look at state maps of NY,NJ,and PA and find out whats close and start exploring. Also realize that if you are in long island the commute is murder and if in NJ and have to use the GW bridge expect delays as well.
Good luck
