Ethanol, the most common alcohol ingredient, appears to be the most effective against viruses; whereas, the propanols have a better bactericidal activity than ethanol.
apparently, if newsday is to be believed, it is a 42-year-old hospitalized man who is not in intensive care and is currently 'improving'.
To some folks, the fact it is one person and that one person is improving and is not even in intensive care will be quite reassuring and altogether unsurprising. Those folks doubtlessly anticipate some more cases on long island and anticipate those cases to follow (essentially) this serious (though ordinarily not fatal) trajectory.
To those who have hit the panic button (or who are encouraging others to hit the panic button) this is just the beginning of a tidal wave of long island deaths brought on by incompetent planning and delayed reaction and obvious shortages of vital supplies... under the direct mismanagement of the awful president.
I heard he's from uniondale, and works at Mercy Medical center...so most likely not a city commuter on LIRR ...but still I'm going to Costco for bread milk and toilet paper
Oh, I've been using an alcohol spray around the house for ages. Just straight 70% alcohol works great on many things (countertops, sinks, etc) although it will soften semigloss paint so it's not a good idea to spray it on that. The problem is that if you use an alcohol spray on your hands and can't immediately moisturize them afterward, it's super-drying for your skin. Older skin especially, and also during the winter months when skin is normally drier because of low humidity.
The product I've been using has 71% alcohol but also has two softening ingredients: glycerin and glyceryl laureate. That's what keeps it from damaging skin.
Hmmm....I should buy a bottle of pure glycerin from Amazon and then I could indeed make my own. Thanks for the inspiration!
I've also been using my own shopping-cart-handle covers for years as well. The plastic ones don't fit over all cart handles, and the fabric ones are a PITA to take on and off and tend to fall apart after a few washings. Best/cheapest alternative? Buy a length of 1" diameter foam pipe insulation for $2.27 at Home Depot
Cut it into four 18" lengths and keep a couple of them in the car. It fits over any size cart handle, and if you should forget to remove it (or want to replace it occasionally) no big deal, it only cost about 60 cents, LOL
A side benefit is that it also makes the cart handle much more comfortable for people who have arthritis in their hands.
Food and mouth disease aka coxsackie is usually a childhood illness. It goes through schools like wildfire but typically isn’t too bad if you get it as a kid. If you get it as an adult however... ugh. I was out of commission for weeks with that stuff. No bueno.
If people would just use a bidet then they wouldn't be fighting over TP.
Then again Americans walk around with some of the dirtiest asses in the world.
