So its seems the government from fed to state to local is serious about combating COVID-19. Closing everything down so we can socially isolate and hopefully avoid becoming Italy.

My family and I are taking this social isolation thing seriously.
We understand we are not at high risk because if we catch it, most likely we feel nothing or just have a minor cold. But we know we must do it is for the health of those at risk (elderly, multiple med problems, etc).
So my wife and kids dutifully stay at home.

I'm a doctor, and we have kept our medical office open because people still have medical problems.
I've cancelled all my elective procedures until further notice.

Our doors are open to address any serious problems, and we hope people have enough common sense to avoid to coming to us for non urgent things.
Yet here I am in the office, seeing plenty of people who are coming in for routine things ("I feel fine, but I need my colonsocopy updated) or minor complaints ("I have gas").
And most of these nudniks are the exact demographic (age >65) we are trying to protect from COVID 19, yet they are out an about like nothing is happening. Especially going to the doctors office where there can be actual COVID 19 patients in the waiting room with you.

Even my wife is telling me she cancelled all her tennis lessons for her and my kids at the local tennis bubble. Yet, she hears its full of retirees playing tennis like its nothing. This is under a tennis bubble recycling air that's a great enclosed breeding ground for coronavirus.

SMH at the lack of common sense.
My wife is super pissed that she is cooped up at home because she knows its her and our children duty to protect the eldery and vulnerable. Yet a lot of these old folks we are trying to protect seem to be out and about and not caring.

When you reach their age you're not going to appreciate anybody telling you what to do either

As somebody that is around a lot of elderly, I can understand why they're reluctant to heed warnings

As a physician you understand how the communication vectors can be cut off and therefore the transfer significantly reduced if we follow the directions as they have been suggested to us. I had been an Emergency Preparedness person in NY before I moved and took tons of classes and POD training.

In this "It's all about me" world, there ought to be a way that people who fail to use common sense are penalized somehow. I play Mah Jongg once per week and the people I play with are of the mind that we are under 10 people so there is no harm!!! Ya just can't fix stupid. Pure plan and simple.

You know, I can understand "Me generation" millenials not social isolating since they most likely even won't feel sick even if they caught coronovirus.

I'm just shocked at all the selfish boomers and older (the ones who we are trying to protect) who Moderator cut: language removed

People have to actually go to work. No one is staying home. Get used to it.

I'm not talking about people who are forced to work.

I'm talking about medicare retirees who still see their doctor for minor problems and play tennis, while everyone else is social isolating to protect their old a sses.

As a millennial, where do you think the stereotypical spoiled "me generation" behavior came from? The parents. Who are mostly from the boomer generation

I know it does no good to point fingers at a time like this, but seriously, the stuff that gets thrown at us all came from parent "advocacy":
  • Participation trophies.
  • Multiple valedictorians.
  • Etc.

It's not like we actually had the power as kids to make schools do these things.

Plus, to the extent these things happened, I think it was mostly to Gen Z (whose parents are mostly from Gen X). I graduated from high school in the 2000s, and we didn't have participation trophies or multiple valedictorians.

That generation is mule stubborn and feel the need to get out every day. My parents just last week told me they had no plans to change their "shop every day" habit. Guess what? Now there's no food. Oh well!

I guess it's up to your office staff to tell people they can't be seen for routine things. Dentists have cancelled all non emergency procedures here. My son has to go to the doctor Thursday and I'm not too happy about it but it's for the HPV booster and I don't think it can wait.

Are these college educated people or more working class types with high school diplomas but still have money?
Are these people in their mid-70s or older? If they are in their late 70s or 80s, they are not Boomers. Joe Biden is not a baby boomer. Baby Boomers were born after WWII ended. People tend to lump all retired people as Boomers. Those that can still manage to play tennis are probably Baby Boomers.
I have seen the exact opposite of what you are seeing, but I am exposed to more educated older people.
