Just a heads up that when you are buying packaged foods (cookies, crackers, whatever) nowadays, take a moment to check the expiration date.

When I was at Stop & Shop the other day I bought a few packages of the cookies that I normally buy, one of which is packaged under their higher end "Taste of Inspirations" branding. I've been buying these Pure Butter Cookies regularly for more than a year, never a problem (they're made in France, btw, not China.)

At home as I opened the box I noticed the expiration date was April 2019. So almost a year old 'past'. And the cookies themselves were almost all smashed to bits. Didn't matter, because when I tasted a fragment they were clearly rancid (the cookies have no preservatives, which is one reason why I like them, lol) so the entire box got tossed.

Don't know if the manufacturers are shipping old stuff to Stop & Shop, or if S&S is sending old stock from their warehouses to stores at the moment, but it is something to keep in mind depending on what you are buying.

Normally I would take it back to the store but under these circumstances I don't want to spend any more time inside a store than I absolutely have to, so it is what it is. But from now on I'll take a few seconds to check the expiration dates on all packaged goods.

It's a good point to check. I've found Trader Joe's bad in the past for bread and milk - you'd buy it, take it home and found out the expiry date was yesterday.

Normally I am careful, but in doing my stocking up very careful as I was looking for items ideally good until late 2021 or 2022.

Download the FoodKeeper app. You can see how safe it is to consume food within a certain time frame from the expiration or best by date.

I think stores are banking on haste purchases, they know better.

Bought a bunch of bags of snacks and chips yesterday. Over half had expiration dates of NOV. 19!

F these people for real.
