Or do you think governor Cuomo will make the decision to close them the rest of the school year?

Where does the union stand on it?

There is your answer.

But it would get interesting if the government says open and the union says no.

I doubt it. The idea of having hundreds of kids in a building and dozens in a school bus is a nightmare for trying to practice physical distancing to prevent spread of the virus.

I doubt it for the reasons above but I could see it possibly in June for 2 reasons:

1 Cuomo wants to stick it to DeBlasio and if NYC is forced to go back Long island will be too.

2 The economy can't fully restart until people with young kids can send them back to school.

Still I doubt it but I hope by June we are returning to normal

With June only 1.5 months away, no. As above, not worth the risk either.

Nothing is going to open soon because we have no masks or tests. The masks are mandated now but understand the state commandeered all of the state supply from every vendor to fill the state stockpile. THEN the Feds (FEMA) shut down all distribution by the manufacturers and instructed them to only produce for FEMA, nothing for anyone else (ie the States) for THEIR stockpile. So now they mandate we were masks...and NO ONE CAN GET ANY (not an N95 anyway). Nothing in stock. Nothing in the pipeline. Not for you and me anyway.

And nothing will reopen until we do massive testing and give up some classic American freedoms, like carrying a "COVID free card", getting temperature taken on lines, stuff like that. Why doesn't the most exceptional country with the most exceptional President in the history of the known universe have enough ten cent to produce masks?! And testing kits? Maybe we should ask Korea or the rich cats on Fishers Island?!

The masks that are mandated aren’t N95 nor surgical masks.
