NASSAU COUNTY, NY — The new coronavirus continues to spread across the country, and Long Island has become the latest hot spot. Nassau County has more cases than almost anywhere else in the state.



As of Wednesday morning, there were 31,079 coronavirus cases in Nassau County and 1,390 deaths. Here are the number of cases for each community, based on the latest data available:

You can correctly guess which towns have the most cases by looking up the ones with a large minority population.

Here is New York State by county. The numbers are a little behind at least compared to the Suffolk County site.

That's not quite accurate.

Levittown has a large # of positive cases but it's proportional to the large population of the town. (51K people, versus the 18K living in neighboring Wantagh.

East Meadow and Uniondale have similar numbers of cases but very different racial and ethnic populations.

I was told by someone I know who works in a hospital from that data sheet that many social workers got many elderly residents in Levittown “sick”. Supposedly these social workers come from high infection towns. Whether I believe it or not, who knows. However like the other poster mentioned if you factor in the population, the numbers are actually very low.

There are more minorities than just black and Hispanic, ma’am.

It never ceases to amaze me how many individual communities there are in Nassau county. I've never even heard of some of those.
